Evening At The River (I)

In this photo the sun has set for about 15 minutes. Across the river on the left is the Wrigley Building, former home of the Wrigley chewing gum corporation. In the foreground right people are strolling on the Riverwalk.

This photo shows the river a few minutes after the first image in this series. In this shot darkness has begun to set in on the area.

Evening At The River (III)

This is looking west down the river to where there is still lots of light in the sky from the now set sun. On the right are the two round buildings of Marina City.

Looking west along the river as it flows through downtown Chicago.

Evening At The River (V)

Looking south from the Lake Street Bridge through an area of largely high rise commercial buildings. The tallest of them is the Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower) seen rising above the others to the left of the moon. The colored streaks on the river are from the safety lights of a large group of kayakers that paddled through the image as it was exposed.

Another photo shot from the Lake Street bridge this time looking toward the north east from the bridge. The large building in the middle left is the Merchandise Mart which was the world's largest building when it was completed in 1930. For many years it was the property of the Kennedy family. On the right is the western end of the Riverwalk.

Evening At The River (VII)

Facing east down the river looking past the Wabash Street bridge. The well lit white building with the clock tower is the former headquarters of the Wrigley Corporation, the makers of Wrigley's Gum.

The Chicago Riverwalk and Chicago River are shown as they pass under the State Street Bridge.

Evening At The River (IX)

The river as it nears Lake Michigan with the bridge over one of Chicago's main streets, Lake Shore Drive, in the distance.

Evening At The River (X)

About a half hour after sunset from Ping Tom Park in Chinatown on Chicago's South Side looking north along the Chicago River through two railroad bridges to the city's downtown skyline. The tallest building seen is the Willis (formerly Sears) Tower. The bridges appear to be one bridge but are actually two, both about 100 years old. The raised bridge can no longer be used but the other bridge is still capable of use.

Evening At The River (XI)

This looks north to where the river flows through an area of high rises devoted entirely to businesses. In the image one of the many excursion boats, 'Chicago's First Lady', moves beneath the Jackson Boulevard bridge.

Evening At The River (XII)

This photo shows one of the busiest bridges in Chicago, the two level bridge on Michigan Avenue. The bridge has recently been renamed the DuSable Bridge to honor the first non-Indian to live in Chicago who established a trading post in this area in the 1780's. DuSable was a black man, believed to originally be from Haiti.
