Natya Dance Theater is an Indian dance company headquartered in Chicago. They are a well established group having won awards at various dance festivals throughout the USA and India. They were the only dance company that was selected to perform an original work at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics. The group's name includes the word 'theater' because their dances tell stories from India's long history through their movements, expressions and hand gestures. Chicago Goes Turkish (I)

This is from a festival of Turkish fashion, food and folk dancing held in downtown Chicago called 'Chicago Goes Turkish'. All of the models and dancers in the festival were from Turkey. A man performs as a 'whirling dervish' quickly circling to music as he is dressed in white clothing with a brown headdress. The whirling dervishes started as part of a serious religious ceremony centuries ago but in the modern age the performances are mostly for tourists. In the background are balloons with symbols of Turkey. Reflected in the glass is Chicago's statue by Picasso.
